We went on a leadership camp and I started to learn more about myself and other people. I was shown that I am a special person and I am unique and that I have got something to give back to my community.

Introduction

CASE is a non-profit organisation dealing with the problems related to community violence in a holistic way: addressing the consequences of violence as well as its root causes and aggravating factors.

Violence is perhaps the most damaging legacy of South Africa's political history. Socially sanctioned violence has filtered into the most private places - the home and the family. It is having a devastating impact on individuals, families, schools and neighbourhoods.

CASE has been working in the troubled area of Hanover Park for over 4 years. In this community:
  • 61% of adults do not have an income
  • Only 11.4% of adults have a monthly income of more than R1601
  • More than 80% of adults have not completed high school
  • 20% of adults have not completed primary school

CASE Vision

In feeling safe and secure comes a new freedom for individuals - and we would like to see this freedom lived out as we learn to respect each otherÕs human rights.

CASE Mission

CASE seeks to break the cycle of crime and violence in which young people live by equipping community members to recognise and respond appropriately to both the causes and effects of crime and violence in their communities.

CASE Approach

The CASE holistic approach comprises two overlapping programmes:

1. Training and Personal Development Programme
2. Community Development Programme
